The LA Times love her, too

Check out the main articleand accompanying photo album on the L.A. Times' Entertainment page. It's all about Michelle's great fashion choices, including this outfit she recently wore to a women's economic forum.

This just got serious

The Republicans think they can nominate an inexperienced, NRA gun-toting, evangelical Christian, former beauty queen for VP and all us women will fall into line simply because we're all women.

Frankly, I feel much more confident on women's issues with Michelle as First Lady in the White House than with Sarah Palin at Number One Observatory Circle.

Was it just my TV?

How amazing did Michelle look in her dress by Thakoon? My only question: were the Obamas dressed in pink or red? My TV definitely made it look pink. Either way is fine with me. Red=traditional patriotic choice. Pink=updated tradition, once removed on the color wheel.

The View

Here's a link to the video of her co-hosting The View.

And, yes her dress was off-the-rack from White House/Black Market, designed by Donna Ricco. Sales of the dress have apparently skyrocketed since its appearance on national television.

Michelle the Doll of NY Magazine

Andre Leon Talley; Michelle fund-raising in NY last night.

"the Cut" by Amy Odell at New York Magazine has nothing but praise for Michelle and her fashion choices. Read the blurb here.

Michelle's Night on the Town in New York

Icons of the fashion world hosted Michelle at Obama fund-raisers in New York last night. Designer Calvin Klein, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and Vogue contributor Andre Leon Talley were among the hosts of the evening that started with a $1,000-a-person reception at the Sikkema Jenkins Gallery on 530 West 22nd Street, off 10th Avenue. After that Michelle headed to Calvin Klein's home in the West Village for a $10,000 per plate dinner fund-raiser.

Click here for more details and photos from the night.

It's a Jungle Out There

After the week she had in the press, Michelle turned the tables this past Friday going from being the "hunted" to the "hunter" when she wore this update to the classic safari jacket on a visit to Oakleaf Village retirement community in Columbus, Ohio.

Get her look: With tons of safari jackets in the market place, Banana Republic's version stands out with its clean lines, bright pomegranate color, and reasonable price tag of $98..

How to Get UnStuck

Though this article is kind of old (from a 2005 O magazine), what Michelle has to say about taking control of her life is inspiring. I think we've all had phases where we suddenly look up and realize, "Hey, this isn't where I want to be...or how I want to look...or what I want to be doing." Her comments about taking her body and diet into her own hands ring so true. I know going to the gym and eating healthy are the first things I do to feel better and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Yahoo's #1 emailed article today is this quick read that briefly compares Michelle and Cindy McCain. I love that people are still paying attention to the ladies even though Hillary is out of the race.

Barack's Rock

Here's an excellent article by Newsweek that discusses Michelle's role in the campaign. As usual, I appreciate her encouraging tone and particularly enjoyed the bit about her being able to achieve the unexpected by simply showing up and playing hard.

Family Woman

Shown above with Barack and daughters Malia and Sasha.

Vanity Fair wrote this fabulous article about Michelle back in December. It discusses the various compromises she and Barack have made in their relationship, her idea of family, her career expectations, and how she balances everything in her chaotic life. A must read for anyone interested in the post-feminist revolution!

Michelle's Fashion Tips for Women on the Go

Here's an article from the Raleigh News and Observer where she talks about her wardrobe on the campaign trail.

I love the orange shift, a nicer version (because it's probably custom made) of J.Crew's fresh look this summer.

The Truth about Michelle's Background--She's American!

There have been stories swirling that Michelle isn't really from a "working class" background. That her neighborhood wasn't blue collar enough, that her mom didn't have to work, that she is too well educated. I'll come back to this, but in the mean time I keep wondering, why can't everyone (Obama camp included) accept the working, middle class upbringing that--like many Americans--she grew up with?

Here's an interesting article on the topic.

Don't cross her.

She gets what she wants. Apparently, she made Barack quit smoking before the presidential run.

Is it legal for the First Lady to look this good?

Though this was a few years ago (in March 2005 at the 36th NAACP Image Awards in LA), you gotta wonder what all those heads of state would do at an official State Dinner if she wore something like this. They'd probably die right there.

Glimpse in their house

The Obamas live in a Hyde Park brownstone in Chicago. Looks like they have it decorated in true Midwestern style--warm woods, natural fibers, craftsman, Prairie-style. I'll keep an eye out for more pics of their house. Picture from this article in Chicago magazine.
